I checked my site within minutes of being alerted. My site was UP! Why?

There are two basic reasons for this:

1. The alert was of low severity, what we call a "Green Alert". There are valid reasons you may be alerted when your server is momentarily unavailable. See our Alert Severity chart and Reasons you may be alerted.

2. If your e-mail is handled by the same server/provider as your Web Site, it's entirely possible that you did not receive the alert until the outage was corrected! After all, if your server was down and it also handles your e-mail, then it would be impossible to deliver the alert notice until the problem was corrected. It is for this reason we recommend you use an alert address that is separate from your Web Server.

If KnightGuard.Net is watching MY site, who's watching KnightGuard.Net?

KnightGuard.Net's sister site. The sister site is located on a geographically separate server from KnightGuard.Net, and is running similar software. The purpose of this sister site is to monitor KnightGuard.Net. If KnightGuard.Net goes down, we know about it.

Can I change my UserID to another e-mail address?

Not by yourself. If you need to change your main UserID/E-Mail Address, first register for a new Free Trial plan. Then you need to contact KnightGuard.Net to de-activate the old UserID and transfer any plan credit to the new UserID.

Can I PING a server?

Yes. When you add a URL to monitor, you can select either the HTTP or PING test.

Does testing cause traffic? I only get a 2GB transfer allowance from my ISP.

Yes, testing will cause traffic. However, we generally recommend creating a small test page on the site, then use that page as a URL. In this case, if the page were 250 bytes, the service monitors once every 15 minutes 96 times a day. That's about 720KB per month - equivalent to the size of a dozen or so medium size images. And it's still less than 1/10% of your quota. However, if this is still an issue, you could just PING, which does not transfer any HTML - but it's not as effective in detecting trouble.
